The victim, who is a 60-year-old techie, received a from a person who impersonated himself as a bank representative. On the call, he told a victim about the high-end smartphone that he had won as a promotional gift.

The scammer is convinced that there is no hidden cost and this is for the reward points he earned using his credit cards.

The victim was convinced and after a few days received a courier with bank branding and found a smartphone, as promised on the call.

Not aware of what was waiting for him, he started using the phone. It was only after a few days that he visited the bank and found that all his FDs worth ₹2.8 crores were liquidated.

In the beginning, he was not able to understand, what and how it happened. But later he found that the phone that he received as a gift contained hidden apps that gave access to the scammer.
