Who Can File a Complaint in BSE?

Investors who have a dispute with a BSE-registered broker or intermediary can use BSE’s investor grievance and arbitration mechanism.

Common dispute categories handled by BSE include unauthorised trades executed without client consent, excess brokerage or other charges beyond what was agreed, failure to transfer securities or process withdrawals, account handling concerns, and demat-related disputes.

As with NSE, approaching BSE arbitration follows a defined escalation sequence.

The internal broker grievance cell first, then you can submit a SEBI SCORES complaint.

If that is insufficient, you can proceed to the SMART ODR login portal before moving to BSE arbitration as the formal final step within the regulatory framework.

    BSE Complaint Portal

The BSE complaint portal is not one door but three, and you can pick the one that fits how you work: the online e-Complaint route on the exchange’s website, the email route to the Investor Services Cell, and the offline form route through a Regional Investor Service Centre.

Most investors file complaint in BSE online because it generates a trackable reference number instantly, but the other two routes exist for exactly the cases where online filing is not practical.

Whichever door you choose, the evidence requirements stay the same, and the sections below cover each route in turn.

How to File Complaint in BSE Online?

To file complaint in BSE online, the exchange’s Investor Services Portal takes your case in five steps:

    • Register on the BSE Investor Services Portal using your email ID and mobile number.
    • Log in to your account using your credentials.
    • Fill in the complaint form, choosing the category that matches your issue.
    • Upload every supporting proof, from email and WhatsApp screenshots to call recordings, and your contract note if the dispute relates to brokerage.
    • Review carefully, then submit.

Once submitted, you receive a unique reference number, and everything that follows, from status checks to arbitration, runs on it.

Respond quickly to any call or email from the exchange about your case, because investors who reply fast resolve faster.

    BSE Complaint PDF

Prefer having everything on paper, or filing for a family member who does not use portals?

We have put the entire process into one document you can download and keep: the five filing steps, the email and phone contacts, the offline form route, the complete documents checklist, and the escalation ladder that runs from your first complaint to a binding arbitration award.

Download the file complaint in BSE PDF and keep it beside your case file, so every step, address, and rule stays one page away whenever you need it.

And if you want the exchange’s own prescribed complaint form for offline submission, BSE’s investor section carries it, to be submitted with your documents and your PAN, email ID, and mobile number at the Department of Investor Services or your nearest Regional Investor Service Centre.

    BSE Complaint Email ID

The written route runs through the exchange’s Investor Services Cell.

The BSE complaint email ID for investor grievances is [email protected], and complaints sent there need the same completeness as the portal: your details, the broker’s name, the dispute in facts and dates, and every document attached.

For trading platform and technical issues specifically, the exchange runs a separate desk at [email protected], so route technical glitches there and broker disputes to the Investor Services Cell.

    BSE Complaint Number

Want to speak to someone before or after filing?

The BSE complaint number helplines are 022 45720400 and 022 45720600, with 022 69158500 also serving trading products and portal support.

Keep your reference number or client details ready before calling, because the desk can act on a case it can find, and a call without the reference usually ends in being asked to email instead.

How to Check BSE Complaint Status?

After filing, your case does not go silent unless you let it.

Your BSE complaint status is checkable on the portal dashboard with the reference number the system generated at submission, showing where the case stands and whether anything is awaited from you.

Check it after each expected milestone rather than daily, and treat any request for documents as urgent, because unanswered requests are how complaints stall.

    What Documents Do You Need

Before filing your BSE complaint, gather the following documents so your case is complete from the start:

    • Your account opening form and KYC documents.
    • Contract notes for all disputed transactions.
    • Your trading account ledger.
    • All email and written communications regarding the dispute.
    • Your complaint to the broker’s internal grievance cell and their reply.
    • Your SEBI SCORES complaint acknowledgement, along with the SCORES response, or a note that none was received.
    • Evidence specific to your dispute type, such as a trade confirmation for an unauthorised trade, or brokerage calculation screenshots for excess charges.

Having these ready in advance makes the filing process faster and gives the arbitrator a clear, well-documented case to review.

BSE Investor Services vs BSE Arbitration

BSE’s grievance mechanism runs through its Investor Services Cell, handling complaints and early escalations against BSE-registered members, and for disputes needing a decision, the IGRC provides the intermediate step, with claims up to ₹25 lakh heard by a single-member committee.

BSE arbitration is the formal legal stage beyond it.

An independent arbitrator is appointed, both parties submit evidence, and the arbitrator’s award is legally binding on the registered member.

How an Investor Recovered ₹14,37,200 Through Exchange Arbitration?

An investor we worked with recovered ₹14,37,200 from IIFL Securities through the arbitration process.

    IIFL Securities Arbitrations

He had opened a trading account after repeated calls from broker representatives, who allegedly promised high returns and pushed him toward aggressive Futures and Options trading despite his limited market knowledge.

Over the next two months, a large number of trades ran through his account, many of which he claimed he had never authorised.

The dispute involved allegations of unauthorised trading, misleading profit assurances, excessive transactions aimed at generating brokerage, and repeated pressure to deposit more funds.

We filed a complaint through the exchange, and when the grievance stage could not resolve the dispute, the case moved into the exchange’s arbitration process, where an independent arbitrator hears both sides and passes a binding decision.

During the proceedings, the Tribunal also held that the broker remained responsible for the conduct of its authorised persons and employees, a finding that matters for every investor who dealt with a representative rather than the head office.

The outcome rested on the evidence available from the beginning and the support carried through every stage. Our team helped the investor organise his audio recordings, WhatsApp conversations, trading statements, and other documents, and represented him through the arbitration.

After reviewing the material on record, the arbitrator directed IIFL Securities to pay ₹14,37,200 within 15 days, with the award carrying 9% annual interest in case of delay.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Register on the BSE Investor Services Portal, fill the complaint form with your dispute category, upload your evidence, and submit. You can also email the Investor Services Cell or submit the prescribed form at a Regional Investor Service Centre.

The complaint stages are free. Arbitration carries a slab based fee under SEBI's dispute resolution framework, starting at ₹5,400 for the smallest claims and ₹9,000 up to ₹10 lakh, refunded when the award goes in your favour.

Complaints forwarded to the other party carry defined response windows, with a 30 day resolution expectation before the exchange follows up. Matters that reach arbitration typically conclude within a few months, and complete documentation moves every stage faster.

Yes. The exchange's Investor Services Cell handles complaints against listed companies too, covering issues like transfers, dividends, and non receipt of securities, through the same form, email, and portal routes.
